Whiteknights campus named one of Britain’s top green spaces

The University of Reading's Whiteknights campus has been recognised as one of Britain's top green spaces for the 12th year in a row.

Each year, the Green Flag Award scheme recognises the UK's best public outdoor spaces, with winners judged on the overall quality of green space and the work that goes into keeping grounds in pristine condition.

Set within 134 hectares, the scenic Whiteknights campus includes a lake, woodlands and the popular Harris Garden - all available for students, staff and the local community to enjoy.

The campus is also a haven for local wildlife, with areas of meadow left uncut to provide habitats and food for seed-eating birds and butterflies, while the lake is a haven for fish, birds and insects.

Andrew Casselden, Director of Estates at the University of Reading, said: “The University of Reading is proud to have received its 12^th consecutive Green Flag Award. Our Whiteknights campus provides a wonderful setting for our staff and students to study and work in, and also provides a fantastic destination for the local community to enjoy.

“I’d like to thank our hardworking grounds team who put so much time and effort into keeping the campus looking beautiful, and managing it in a way that is adapting to our changing climate.”
